MOMentum Ribbon Cutting!

This year I DID something. I capitalize DID because I come up with millions of ideas but rarely do anything with them. Bubba laughs at me all the time for having lots of ideas with no follow-through. But this time I did. This year I started a non-profit called MOMentum. We put exercise equipment in parks for moms. The equipment is made of the same material as playground equipment, so the Seattle rain isn’t going to destroy it. It requires no electricity and looks and works great! We chose pieces of equipment that will appeal to moms and will focus on the trouble spots most moms want to work on.

I went around to parks and interviewed moms and talked with them about how tough it is to get in a workout as a mom. I also heard from many that you need money to be fit as a mom. I get that. By the time you get the gym membership and the babysitter and drive to and from the gym, it isn’t cheap. I also heard from working moms that, when they have free time, the last thing they want to do is stick their kids in a gym daycare so they can work out. They want to be with them. Many loved the two-for-one idea. Get your kids off the couch and active in the park while you get in a workout. The point is, it was an idea all the moms I talked to liked. Well, to be totally honest, there were two pregnant moms who said they were too exhausted to work out. I even had a couple jump up and down asking when the equipment would be there, because they need it NOW!

On a personal note, I’m not a person who loves to work out. In fact, I love to find excuses not to. I do however know that I always feel great after a workout and that I feel better about myself when I’m working out. So even though I drag my feet, I do work out. I also have stints of time when I get lazy and don’t see the gym for a while. I went for the first time in two weeks yesterday. I knew if H was able to play where I could see him and encourage him, and he could see me and learn that fitness and being healthy are important to me, AND I could get in a workout, this could be a great thing. My friend, former trainer, and co-founder of MOMentum, Kelly Singer, and I got busy and, after a TON of work and a huge learning curve, we have arrived at the ribbon cutting for the first park. I would be so honored if you all could come. Many of you I don’t know and would love to meet!

The ribbon cutting is October 15th at noon. We are excited that the mayor will be there. After the ribbon cutting there will be tons of free, fun fitness classes and kid activities, including pics with (and autographs from) the Sea Gals. Check out the link below for more info. By the way, it is at Les Gove Park in Auburn, which has the best kids’ play area on earth.

While it is exciting that it is time for the ribbon cutting, it also means time to get serious about fundraising. I’m TERRIBLE about asking people for money, so . . . we are putting on a Fashion Night Out for moms at the Bravern in Bellevue. This event is going to be so much fun. The thing I love about events is the goody bags. I looooove them, in fact. So, you can be sure these are going to be some killer goody bags. Check out the invite below. This will be a night you won’t want to miss!

Thank you all so much for your support. To learn more about MOMentum, check out www.momentumeverywhere.org.

The ribbon cutting was fantastic, Paige! It was neat to have so many businesses and community groups and Auburn city government folks there to celebrate. So proud of you guys and looking forward to seeing where this venture takes you!

Paige, great to partner with you on this improvement to the “greatest playground on earth”! No more excuses for people, lets encourage everybody to get outside and do something.
