I recently stopped at a place I had been admiring for years. Every time I passed it I thought, “One day when I have kids I am so taking them here.” H is just old enough to really start taking advantage of the awesomeness that is Smallwood’s.
What always caught my eye while passing by was the huge petting zoo they have complete with ramps for the animals to use. When I finally took the time to stop and really check the place out, I discovered so many things besides the petting zoo worth trying out. The biggest hit for H and me was the cow train. You have to see the video attached to get a feel for how cool this is. They say a child needs to be over two to go on it. I would say a two year old alone on this might be a really bad idea. They go super fast and over bumps and whip around corners. I went with H in my lap, which was perfect. I have to admit there were a couple times when he whipped us around and I thought we would tip over.
They also have a fenced-in bike, trike, and big-wheel track. H had a great time in there—well, until the schoolyard bully kept trying to run his bike into H and knock him off. His dad was watching all this go down, by the way. Sorry, I got off track. They have a maze, horseshoe pit, and picnic area, plus RV, trailer, and bus parking—and they have farm stays! H also LOVED their country store. They have kid-size shopping carts. I got a kick out of watching H push his cart around dumping treats galore in it. At the store they have tons of fruit from local farms, gifts, fruit, wines, and samples. There is a pumpkin patch and obviously a fantastic petting zoo. H and I had so much fun here and can’t wait to go back. Smallville is located just outside Leavenworth, Washington.
